“Haters” is the new single from Carrollton, Ga. “fun rock” band Baby Baby, due out Feb. 14 (ironically) via the Gospel of Rhythm Recordings. For the cover, they reprinted part of my review of their debut CD, Money, which I gave 2 out of 5 Stars. I was feeling generous that day and gave them an extra point simply because “Fire” is a catchy little song — something they’ve struggled to reproduce since.

As a cultural meme, “hater” is one of those words that gets used all too often, and incorrectly at that. But I guess I’d expect to be called a “hater” by a band that’s still going on and on about swag in 2012. – Chad Radford / Creative Loafing Atlanta

“You know I how I love to put out a music suggestion for the weekend, and today is no different!! Yesterday I ran across Baby Baby after receiving an email from Team Clermont. I have to say that I couldn’t be happier that said email was sent and that I had the time to explore some of the artists the firm represents. Baby Baby definitely got me through a very boring Thursday afternoon and I have a feeling they will be pushing me through the weekend too.

Baby Baby are if the “Bad Brains and Kings Of Leon had a baby that was styled by In Living Colour and was raised by Lamar of Revenge Of The Nerds” – Clark Westfield

Any band that gets describe in such a fashion as Clark Westfield‘s quote is a must listen just to see how crazy that would sound. In all honesty his description isn’t far off, especially the comment about being styled by In Living Colour. They are for sure a style of “Fun Rock” and that is what Summer is all about isn’t it?

The group is made up of Fontez Brooks (Vocals, Guitar), Kyle Dobbs (Bass), Grant Wallace (Drums), and Colin Boddyv (Additional Percussion). In true indie fashion they recorded their first EP on a iMac back in the Summer of 2009.” On The Couch

please give a listen to Baby Baby’s “AKA $20″ – the FULL song title is “I Could Have Taken You to See the Blink 182 Reunion Show but I Spent $20 Taking You Out on a Date Instead and You Didn’t Return My Phone Call so Now I Want My Refund (aka $20)”.

Needless to say this song has generated some controversy, but at the end of the day ALL the song is about is taking someone out to date, having that person order the MOST expensive thing on the menu, you pay for the meal and that person NEVER gives you the time of day again. We have all had this experience and can RELATE to this. LOL.

Here is what Baskin Rocks had to state about Baby Baby’s “Money” CD release show:

“Saturday night around 9:45 started quite the musical adventure at the Drunken Unicorn. 9:45 marked the beginning of Baby Baby’s record release show for their new CD “Money”, featuring two other talented groups Machines are People Too and Parachute Musical. Too keep from writing a novel about the night, I am going to stick to Baby Baby, but be sure to take a look at the others’ videos on my video page.

Baby Baby is the head banging brain child of Fontez Brooks and Grant Wallace. A couple months after Fontez first picked up a guitar, both he and Grant, the drummer, decided to start playing while hanging at the pool of their apartment. They went back home to start making “noise” and thus started Baby Baby. Soon their roommate Colin Boddy, “unable to escape”, joined playing percussion. Last but not least came bassist Kyle Dobbs.

There music seems to capture the angst of the “unpopular” crowd. It is all about being turned down by girls and having no money to do the things they want to do. With the energy and passion they put into their music, and with the band’s general appeal, I do not think money is will be a big issue in the future.

While playing live, it is easy to tell how much they enjoy doing what they are doing. It is impossible not to dance around and have a good time when Baby Baby is on stage. Even when they are not playing music, their stories and antics will keep you having a great time. The record release show just exploded at the end while playing “Fire”, their first single off the record. By the end of the song, both Fontez and Colin were literally hanging from the rafters of the venue while the two opening bands finished playing the music.

To sum up my experience of the show, I have never had so much fun watching four shirtless men in short shorts perform in front of me. If you have a chance to see them on the “$10″ east coast tour, go!!!”
